One shade fits all
Monochromatic interior design is in, and it’s anything but boring. In fact, it’s a great way to add cohesion and interest to your space, without having to figure out the best colour combinations to work in a room.
But how do you do it effectively? Kustom Timer have a few tips.
Choose your colour wisely
Different colours evoke different emotions. Soft blues and greens can create a calming atmosphere, while warm tones such as beige or taupe add cosiness. Think about how you want the space to feel.
It’s also worth considering the size of the space. For larger rooms, darker shades can create a sense of intimacy, while lighter hues can make smaller spaces feel more open.
Layer tones and shades
Monochromatic doesn’t mean the exact same colour tone for everything. Use a range of tones and shades of your chosen colour to add depth and keep the room interesting. For example, pair a deep navy with light blues and soft greys.
Contrasting shades can also draw attention to the little architectural details, such as mouldings, doors, and windows.
Texture is key
A mix of materials is a great way to add richness. Use a mix of materials such as velvet, silk, wood, and metal.
The easiest way to add texture is through your flooring – and engineered timber adds natural texture that fits seamlessly with your colour scheme.
Play with patterns
Patterns can add some visual interest without overwhelming the monochromatic theme. Tone-on-tone damasks or geometric prints are a great option, and accent pieces such as rugs, cushions, and artwork can introduce slight variations to the space so it doesn’t feel too flat.
Mind the undertones
Colours can have warm or cool undertones, and mixing the two together can create a space that looks messy and disrupted. Keep it consistent with the same undertones and, if in doubt, test paint and fabric samples in the actual room to see how they interact with the existing lighting and space.
Every great interior starts with a perfect base
With a huge range of timber flooring and pretty much every stain colour you can imagine, it’s the best way to start your monochromatic space.
