Online group encourages wellness and exercise

Great Ocean Road Health’s (GORH) physiotherapist, exercise physiologist and allied health team have been working around the clock to provide an online exercise and wellness page to keep the community and staff healthy and active during the pandemic.

GORH exercise physiologist Campbell Craig said the simple idea of creating a closed Facebook page for a few existing clients has now turned into a private group of more than 200 followers.
“We also created a staff health and wellbeing page to keep staff connected and energised, particularly those working remotely,” he said.
“Our exercise classes range from chairobics, yoga, meditation, strength training through to some high intensity interval workouts.
“All the exercise sessions have minimal equipment requirements and we try to include some helpful health education where we can.
“We have really enjoyed posting the recent functional goal of ‘How to get up from the ground more gracefully’.
“Through August, we are implementing a weekly online Health Coaching session, to help support community members towards some simple health goals.”
GORH chief executive officer Sandy Chamberlin said he was proud of the allied health team, not only for adapting their services to a virtual workspace, but continuing to provide great care, particularly for their vulnerable community members and staff.
