PUNK’S NOT DEAD FOR GOONS OF DOOM

March 10, 2016 BY

Anarchic surf punk band Goons of Doom are heading to Torquay as part of their first national tour in more than six years. After playing New Year’s Day at Falls Festival in Byron Bay, they’re following the WSL tour around the county for their new show, The Sewer Tour.
Hailing from Sydney’s Northern Beaches and made up of Ozzie Wrong (professional surfer and artist Ozzie Wright), Vaughan Dead (former pro surfer and Surfing World editor Adam Blakey), Cutthroat Cowboy (Ryan Cowell) and Killa Whale (Timothy Cooney), Goons of Doom were formed by accident.
Just a group of friends with no musical experience at the time, they came together in 2003 to act the part of the band in the cult indie surf film, Doped Youth.
Within five days of buying their prop instruments, they plugged them in, started practicing, and played their first gig at a mate’s party.
When filming on Doped Youth wrapped up, they decided to continue as a real band, consistently playing at parties and bars before touring with The Beautiful Girls.
Since then, they’ve released singles and albums sporadically and popped up on stages in Australia, the US and Europe from time to time.
They also nabbed a spot at Byron Bay’s La Casa artist residency, which has also hosted Flume, Liam Finn, Ms Mr, The Delta Riggs, Donavon Frankenreiter and more.
In a show that’s sure to be filled with laughs and lots of mischief, Goons of Doom are playing at the Torquay Hotel, supported by Gold Coast’s Bleach Girls on Friday March 25, doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are $23.50, available at oztix.com.au or on the door.
