Shed showcases uplifting one-woman show
Finding joy in every opportunity is a focus at Drysdale’s Potato Shed this September as hybrid-scripted one-woman show Every Brilliant Thing takes centre stage.
The uplifting improvisation show from Geelong Contemporary Theatre will follow one woman’s pursuit of creating a huge list of wonderful things about life for her depressed mother.
The acclaimed interactive comedy will traverse through themes of family, love, loss and hope and deep dive into the highs and lows of the woman’s childhood through to her adulthood.
As the plot of the show thickens, the story becomes a communal experience, with audience members playing an active role in crafting the story and supporting the woman to live life to the full.
Directed by Nicholas Brooke, the show will star Australian born Canadian, Rachelle Lachland Goulter who has a strong background in live improvised comedy.
Mrs Lachland Goulter said she was looking forward to bringing the striking theatre show to the Potato Shed.
“While the show explores the depths of mental health challenges, it does so respectfully and in an, at times, comedic way.
“Performed in the round, there’s a lot of audience involvement, and while the play is scripted it does rely on a lot of interaction.
“This is a great time to have a performance that asks, ‘what things are worth living for?’, so hopefully people will come out and continue to show their support for live art.”
Bellarine Ward councillor, Jim Mason, said the region was privileged to be hosting the much-travelled show.
“I’ve learned this one-person performance began at Edinburgh Fringe Festival almost a decade ago and it’s a great reminder to see the good in every opportunity,” Cr Mason said.
“With each performance partly improvised, it’s clear no two shows will be quite the same.
“I’m hoping Geelong theatregoers will continue to support the Potato Shed and take the opportunity to take in this play that touches on the serious topic of depression in a positive and uplifting manner.”
The performances will be held on September 15, 16 and 23.
Shows will kick off at 7:30pm each evening, while an additional 1pm performance is slated for September 23.
