Skegss to return to the Torquay Hotel for special shows
One of Australia’s favourite surf/garage rock trios is heading to Torquay this September for a special doubleheader of shows.
Byron Bay three piece Skegss will take on the Torquay Hotel, on September 1 and 2 for the first time in four years, with sparks sure to fly before they embark on a full UK tour
With three albums under their belt, as well as a Triple J live album, and multiple No. 1 singles on the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) charts, the energetic live performers have created a strong reputation for themselves, gathering praise for their on-stage chemistry and antics all over the world.
The Torquay Hotel are thrilled to welcome Skegss back for their first gig at the venue since Easter in 2019, an event described as the wildest show to be held at the pub since Australian Crawl 34 years before.
“We are so excited to be welcoming Skegss back to the Torquay Hotel for what will be an epic show,” Torquay Hotel co-owner Joel Taylor said.
“The show in 2019 was one of the best and most wild shows we have ever had at the pub.
“We had flipped the pub around due to renovations and they performed in what is now the restaurant on a makeshift stage; the crowd went absolutely nuts.
“We absolutely love their energy and style, and I am sure that the hotel will be absolutely buzzing come September 2.”
The three piece of Ben Reed (vocals, guitar), Toby Cregan (bass, guitar, vocals) and Jonny Lani (drums) will be performing from their recent album ‘Rehearsal’ and will also play an array of Australia’s favourite hits including ‘Got on my Skateboard’ and ‘Spring has Sprung’.
The new album is said to be the most candid and electrifying snapshot of the band and was recorded at The Grove Studios with Grammy-award winning producer Catherine Marks (Foals, Wolf Alice, The Wombats).
Marks was described as being a big inspiration behind the album with her veteran finesse expanding upon the rustic charm of demos that the band have used with 60’s and 70’s instruments in recent performances.
Their recent body of work, which has been widely appreciated by the Australian public, gives the Torquay Hotel the impression that the concert will be nothing short of fantastic.
Due to popular demand with ticket selling out for the first show on September 2, the Torquay Hotel added the second Skegss show which is set for September 1.
“The Skegss guys are pretty popular and well received down here in our community so tickets have been absolutely flying out the door so far,” Taylor said.
“We strongly advise that people buy tickets fast before all are sold out.”
The band’s special one-off show will be supported by their friends Stimpies and local favourites Good Sniff.
