Torquay is set for a high-energy night of music and performance next week, as a Pride party backed by the Midsumma Festival arrives on the Surf Coast.
Surf Coast Slay will take over the Torquay Hotel on Saturday, January 31, turning the venue into a dancefloor as the sun goes down and the party ramps up.
The event is presented by Melbourne queer party promotors Thursgay and is part of Midsumma Festival’s push to bring Pride celebrations to regional Victoria.
RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under star Kween Kong will headline the night.
Performances will also come from Max Drag Queen – the dancing queen from season four of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under – and Diloncé, who Thursgay describes as “Australia’s drag answer to Beyoncé”.

Meanwhile, DJs FRESHXPRINCESS, Jxn Miles and local favourite Sailor V will provide the soundtrack of pop remixes, throwback anthems and club classics.
Thursgay’s signature Lip Sync For Your Pint competition will feature across the evening. The competition encourages audience members to jump on stage to battle it out for a free drink and ultimate bragging rights.
Local drag performers from the Surf Coast, Geelong and Bellarine are also invited to show off their skills in a Drag Battle Royale.
The winner will take home a cash prize and secure a gig at Thursgay’s Victoria’s Pride Street Party afterparty.
