LOCATED in the heart of Torquay, Star of the Sea Aged Care Residence is embracing its new suite of amenities and encouraging the community to do the same.

Unveiled last year, the aged care home now features a fully equipped gymnasium, a kiosk and cafe, and a modern hair and beauty salon.

The addition of the facilities has allowed the VMCH operated facility to enhance the experience of its residents and foster stronger ties within the local community.

Star of the Sea Aged Care Residence manager Mary Foxall said with the opening of the new facilities, the residence is now welcoming more members of the community into the space.

“We’re finding that because we’ve got the aged care residence, having the community in is changing the energy of the home; we’re getting feedback from residents that they like having people around.”

The modern hair and beauty salon is available to care residents and members of the wider community, offering haircuts, colouring, styling, waxing and a wide range of facials.

The local aged care residence’s new amenities enhances the experience of residents and fosters strong ties with the local community.

Star of the Sea is encouraging the commuity to head in and try the salon for themselves, offering 20 per cent off their first Cosmedix facial until November 17.

For the organisation, the main goal of the amentities is maintaining a lively atmosphere where residents feel engaged, valued and part of the community.

The addition of the salon and cafe is a reflection of VMCH’s commitment to creating a vibrant and inclusive space for residents and helping them remain connected.

The new facilities help break down barriers residents might experience with connection and helps foster interactions between generations.

Within the Torquay community, the kiosk and cafe have quickly become social hubs.

The cafe in particular has become popular with the aged care residents, along with those living in the co-located retirement village, visiting families and friends, and locals stopping in for a coffee.
