SURF MUSIC FEAT. LOOSE TOOTH
JC: Are you pretty pumped for the Milk records show at Anglesea Hall on March 22?
NJ (Loose Tooth member Nellie Jackson): I’m really excited. We’re going to make a bit of a weekend of it. You always want to play those beachside places but it’s just really hard getting shows there. There’s usually not the right venue, or capacity or you don’t know the booker.
JC: How long have you been with Milk Records?
NJ: 2016. There’s no contract at Milk so I can’t say we got signed, but we came up with a roster then. Jen (Cloher) and Courtney (Barnett) are really lovely people, we were kinda friends with them prior to getting on the roster. There’s no sort of rules or regulations on what you want to do.
JC: It’s so cool that there’s no exploitation of the artists at all, it’s just like grass roots and it’s all about helping each other!
NJ: Totally. It’s pretty unheard of these days. We had a very horrific experience with a manager and label when we were 16/17, we signed some pretty horrific contracts and learnt the hard way.
JC: What does Surf Music mean to you?
NJ: You know the band ‘Goons of Doom’? Well, when me and Etta (Curry) were younger we used to hang out with
them heaps and we did a split record with them, that always means Surf Music to me for some reason. Surf Music is always kinda like either grimey punk music or skate music or maybe it could be like top 40 hits who knows!
