More than 100 artists have their works on display in a group art show at Geelong’s Hue and Cry Gallery.

The House Geelong debuted its ‘Open House’ exhibition, made up of 300 works, holding its official open on Saturday.

Local artists and members from The House Geelong have contributed to the group’s first exhibition.

The House Geelong president Nat Artz said this showcase of work is all about celebrating the diversity in the community.

“It’s been a lot of work, but it’s been really fun having all of our members come together to work on this big group project like this. It’s been awesome.

“We’ve got such a range of artists; we’ve got people who it’s their first time exhibiting and people who have been professional artists for 40 years.”

With such a wide range of artists and experience, there’s a number of different mediums on display including textile work, oil paintings, illustration, sculptural work and more.

The House Geelong is a not-for-profit community arts organisation and has grown in the last two years to include 54 members.

When they put the call out for a free local exhibition, they received a huge response.

Artz said the organisation was founded to create a welcoming, inclusive community without any financial or social barriers.

“We are entirely volunteer-run and member-funded and operate on a democratic, non-hierarchical voting system.

“Every member, regardless of their tenure, has an equal say in the organisation’s operations and future direction.”

The exhibition will run until July 20.
