Storm to brew in Torquay
AUSTRALIAN genre-bending rockers Tropical F*** Storm will be making their way down to Torquay later this year as part of their coming national tour.
The ARIA Award winners’ highly anticipated fourth album Fairyland Codex is out next week on their new label home Fire Records.
Recorded with co-producer Michael Beach at the band’s Dodgy Brothers studio in Nagambie, the songs on Fairyland Codex immerse listeners in the chaos of a fateful landslide, picking out the characters that litter the impending collapse of society.
New single Teeth Marche headlines the album with its thumping bass line and promise of everlasting affection.
Teeth Marche follows previous singles Goon Show, a surreal sharp-edged slice of signature chaos, Bloodsport, with vocals from Erica Dunn, filled with Talking Heads styled funk and stuttering guitar breaks, and Dunning Kruger’s Loser Cruiser, an exploration of a classic overestimation of knowledge.
“Two languages jammed together, clutching at sense like the rest of the world. Marché: market, marché: walk, teeth: les dents, marcia marcia marcia: the Brady bunch,” band member Erica Dunn said.
“The Teeth Market, the Teeth Walk, our attempt at a laid-back wonky jam which contemplates a vision of plunder that is played out in romance, in a climate emergency, in murderous political zeniths- those who take, take, take, lick their lips and want more,”
Since forming in 2017, Tropical F*** Storm has produced four studio albums, with both its Braindrops (2019) and Deep States (2021) titles peaking in the ARIA top 10 charts.
Known for their high energy live shows, the band are sure to bring the heat to the Torquay Hotel on November 7.
