AUSTRALIAN singer-songwriter Tones and I is headed to Barwon Heads next month, for an all-ages acoustic pop-up show, as she continues her We Want Tones tour series across the country.

The performer, whose breakout hit Dance Monkey topped charts in 40 countries and was the first song by a female artist to reach three billion streams on Spotify, has been hosting gigs in small towns and venues across Australia since late last year.

These locations are put forward by her fans, and in January, the Torquay community successfully encouraging the multi-award-winning artist to make a stop in the coastal town, performing a sold-out gig at the Torquay Hotel.

At the time, she described the We Want Tones tour as a way to hold onto her early days as a street busker, a performance style she recognises fame now prevents her from recreating.

“It’s like holding onto a part of something that I thought I was losing, which is that connection I made when I was a busker,” she said.

“This is my version of reconnecting with people and these shows are the epitome of connection.”

Last week’s announcement that Barwon Heads would finally be getting its own pop-up performance is a dream come true for teenager Abbey Hodgson, who has been leading the local effort to bring the musician to the peninsula.

Hodgson’s Facebook page, “Tones & I come to the Bellarine Peninsula” was launched almost 12 months ago and has since gained 680 followers, more than double that of its Torquay counterpart.

“Tones and her music have meant so much to me personally, and to know that I played even a small part in helping bring her to the Bellarine is really special,” Hodgson said.

“To now see it all come full circle and know that she’s actually coming here is a feeling I’ll never forget.”

Hodgson snapped up her tickets within minutes of them becoming available on the website.

“None of this would have been possible without everyone who supported, shared and believed in this idea. You all made this dream a reality, and I’ll forever be grateful for that,” she said.

“This concert is going to be more than a gig — it’s a celebration of what we achieved together as a community. I think it will be a really special night for everyone who has been part of the journey, and I can’t wait to experience it alongside you all.”

Tones and I will perform at the Barwon Heads Hotel on October 9.
