GEELONG’S Gold Diggers Arms will be filled with laughter on Wednesday, August 20 when three Australian comedians get behind the microphone.

The comedy night will be headlined by Pete Helliar with Johnny Kats and Sonia Di Iorio also joining in on the entertainment.

Helliar is well known for his roles on TV, including as co-host on The Project, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! and Have you Been Paying Attention? along with his performances at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Also on the big screen, he has co-produced two series of the award-winning It’s A Date, alongside writing, directing and starring in three seasons of How to Stay Married.

Johnny Kats will be the MC for the evening, bringing his extensive 20 years of experience to the gig.

Across his extensive career, the Australian comedian has performed in front of crowded theatres and comedy rooms across the country.

Geelong booking agency What’s the Joke Comedy owner John Watts said Helliar’s style made him such a great act to watch.

“He’s a good storyteller and likes having a bit of fun himself and what goes on in his home life, or just turning something that’s happened to him in day-to-day into a funny story and often brings the house down.”

Johnny Kats will take on the role of MC for the evening. A regular on cruise ships, the comedian has been in the industry for more than 20 years, previously having his own show on Nova FM.

Sonia Di Iorio is also part of the Wednesday night lineup.

“He’s a pretty polished performer, he’ll bring a different demographic to Pete, who’s married with kids, whereas Johnny’s not, so he’s got a different perspective of jokes,”Mr Watts said.

“It’s going to be a broad range of comedy, it will be good to just have someone different for each spot.”

Gold Diggers Arms offers $20 parmy nights on Wednesdays, with people interested in eating before the show encouraged to arrive early.
