Tradie Talk
LEO French has been a glazier for 20 years, working across the Surf Coast and surrounding regions and took over ownership of Torquay Glass over two years ago.
Torquay Glass operates from 7.30am-4.30pm weekdays with one apprentice, two senior tradesmen and Leo, with Angela and Kate in the office. “I know this area pretty well. I grew up in Geelong and have a family here, so there are many fond memories of being on the Surf Coast,” Leo said.
“Glazing is one of the more unique trades, and I suppose people don’t ever really consider it until they need it! “We get calls every day for smashed or damaged windows. We also replace and install shower screens and glass pool fencing.
“Glass is being used more often as kitchen splashbacks too, giving the area a modern finish. The glass can be painted in any colour to suit your scheme and has no grout to keep clean.”
Leo often finds customers in older homes contact Torquay Glass to replace their existing materials with glass that has better thermal performance – in an effort to keep their energy consumption down. “We also do commercial type work as well as domestic – shopfronts after hours and glass displays for cafés and bakeries,” Leo said.
Leo takes pride in his employees and providing employment to local residents. “By employing locals, you can be confident your money stays in the region,” Leo said.
“We are proud to have a full-time apprentice as a small business and enjoy creating local employment opportunities.” Not only does Leo enjoy working within the region but the style goes hand in hand.
“As a surfer, I love those early mornings before the crowd arrives,” he said. “We are also spoiled here with great cafes, bars and restaurants – there’s always something happening!”
Torquay Glass offers free measure and quotes, and is available same day for emergency repairs (following a break in or vandalism).
