Troupe brings any given monday to stage
The Torquay Theatre Troupe is bringing Bruce Graham’s Any Given Monday to life and in doing so is set to deliver a moving and confronting piece of drama.
Directed by Gay Bell, the play explores a heady range of topics-violence, racism, loyalty, religion, conscience, free will; all of which is right up philosophy student Sarah’s (Lenny’s daughter played by Siobhan Linde) alley.
Producer Maryanne Doolan said the story centres around Mickey (played by Michael Baker) who is on a mission to save his friend Lenny (played by Fred Preston) from himself.
“Mickey is loud and crude and would do anything for his friend—anything! Be prepared for plenty of coarse language and outrageous statements, and to be fascinated by him,” she said.
“Lenny is a great guy, a good teacher, an excellent father and a loving husband. When life throws the curve ball at him, he hunkers down in his den with his favourite movie until Mickey arrives.
“The play is set in Philadelphia in 2009, Mickey is Irish American, Lenny’s family is Jewish, and with a backdrop of Monday night football the accents and characters are likely to be a lot of fun.
“It is a different world to Torquay, but morals and ethics shouldn’t be very different, should they?”
Ms Doolan said the fourth member of the cast is Risa, the matriarch of the family and the cause of the drama and ensuing events, played by the “always captivating” Lisa Berry.
“The plethora of enjoyably excellent plays Gay Bell has directed for TTT indicates that this production of Any Given Monday is bound to intrigue, amuse, satisfy, and undoubtedly leave us with plenty to think about.”
The show will be running from November 5 until November 17 at 8pm, with a matinee performance on November 11 at 2pm at 16 Price Street Torquay.
