In the heart of Torquay, the stage comes alive with a burst of energy and a touch of canine charm as Torquay Theatre Troupe takes on the whimsical production of Sylvia.

This theatrical venture not only show cases the remarkable talent within the Troupe but also highlights the power of storytelling which transcends human emotions and ventures into the world of man’s best friend.

Sylvia is a play written by A.R. Gurney and directed by Paul Friend.

“I’m very excited about being able to revisit Sylvia 20 years after being in the cast and reinventing the fantastic characters in A.R. Gurney’s play with a top-class ensemble is a joy,” Mr Friend said.

Sylvia is a delightful exploration of companionship, love, and self-discovery.

Greg and his wife Kate are looking for a new life now the couple no longer need to care for their children, when Greg brings home Sylvia, a stray dog.

The plot revolves around Greg, a man of middle age, tired of his job in finance, looking for meaning in his life and Kate, his wife, a rising star in the public school system, looking for a new life of culture now the couple no longer have children to care for.

Their lives take an unexpected turn when Greg brings home a stray dog named Sylvia.

What ensues is a hilarious and heartwarming journey as Sylvia, played with exuberance by the talented cast, becomes an unexpected catalyst for change in the couple’s lives.

One of TTT’s regular and talented actors, Michael Baker, describes his challenge of bringing three different characters to the stage as “demanding but a lot of fun”.

The star of the show is Sylvia herself – a four-legged scene-stealer whose portrayal by the Troupe’s canine actor is nothing short of extraordinary.

The show highlights the power of storytelling and ventures into the world of man’s best friends.

The audience can’t help but be captivated by Sylvia’s antics, her canine charm weaving seamlessly into the narrative and eliciting laughter and heartfelt moments alike.
