Wye and Sep rebuilding forum set for Sunday

THE Colac Otway Shire is hosting an event in Geelong this Sunday for landowners in Wye River, Separation Creek and Kennett River that are looking to rebuild following the 2015 bushfire.

The interactive and free building forum is designed to assist land owners to navigate the building process and get advice from industry experts.

Keynote speakers and their areas of expertise
include:

• Planner – Colac Otway Shire recovery planning co-ordinator Anna Borthwick
• Geotechnical – Colac Otway Shire consulting geotechnical engineer Anthony Miner
• Geotechnical – AGR Geosciences’ Dave Horwood
• Building design – Kris Thomas Building Design principal Kris Thomas
• Water treatment – Colac Otway Shire environmental health co-ordinator Jonathan Brettt
• Building – Great Ocean Road Builders’ Jack Everitt
• Plumbing – H20 Plumbing Solutions’ Dave Kohout
• Landscaping – Otway Greening’s Mike Robinson-Koss
• Fire awareness – Colac Otway Shire fireawareness officer Tristan Crews.

There will also be an opportunity for property owners to ask questions and freely discuss matters that relate to their own building experience.

The bushfire that became known as the Wye River-Jamieson Track fire had destroyed 98 houses in Wye River and 18 in Separation Creek by the end of Christmas Day 2015, and burned 2,500 hectares in the Otway Ranges in the Lorne-Wye River region between December 19, 2015 and January 21, 2016.

The forum will be held at the Geelong Conference Centre, 20 Adams Court, East Geelong on Sunday from 11am-3pm. Lunch and refreshments provided.
