MORE than 1,000 runners took part in the third Flying Brick Bellarine Sunset Run at the weekend.

On Saturday, about 1,150 participated in the 21.8-kilometre run, a half marathon and a four-kilometre fun run.

This year’s event also gave participants of the 21.8-kilometre the challenge to take on the the tall ship Enterprize.

During the race, two course records fell and the Enterprize came in at 83rd place, with a time of one hour, 56 minutes and two seconds.

Nick Earl recorded the fastest time, completing the 21.8-kilometre run in one hour, 14 minutes and 48 seconds, beating the previous record by 30 seconds.

The event aimed to raise $10,000 for headspace Bellarine, which is run out of Bellarine Community Health Youth Services in Drysdale.

Organisers said feedback from the event had been very good, with some taking to social media to share their positive experiences.

Catherine Buchanan said, “I have been the previous two years just as a spectator as I’m not a runner, but this year I decided to participate with my nine-year-old granddaughter in the headspace four-kilometre walk. Beautiful walk along the beach, she loved it. I found the event to be well organised with all the staff and volunteers very friendly and helpful. Hope to be back next year.”
