TORQUAY’S parkrun attracted more than 200 participants and gave the community an opportunity to connect, be active and improve their mental and physical wellbeing.

Kicking off at Fisherman’s Beach last Saturday, the event saw athletes of all levels participate in a 5km run, jog or walk before sitting around under umbrellas to enjoy a refreshment and a couple of laughs.

There was plenty of happy faces at Saturday’s event.

Plenty of colour was on show during Saturday’s event.

Local Torquay resident and event director Sarah Minter said it was fantastic to see plenty of new and old faces participate in the event.

“We had our regulars, visitors, and 46 first timers – while 33 people even recorded personal bests,” Ms Minter said.

“We’ve had great turnouts at Torquay parkrun this summer, and each week, passers-by stop to ask questions about how to get involved; it’s a great free community event to be a part of.

“In total we had 226 people run, jog and walk, plus eleven volunteers who helped make the event possible – a terrific result.

“Our runners, walkers, and volunteers also had a chance to socialise after completing the course and were treated to a recovery massage, health checks from the Medibank van, relaxing shaded areas, and complimentary fruit and snacks.

“It was wonderful to have all of our participants embrace the event.”

Medibank Group Executive, Rob Deeming said it was “fantastic to see such strong participation at the Torquay event”.

33 people recorded best ever times.

46 first timers entered into Saturday’s fun run.

“We’re very proud of the social connections the event has fostered within the local community,” Mr Deeming said.

“With another ten locations to go, we’re looking forward to seeing the Medibank parkrun Road Trip continue to travel across the country.”

The next stop on the Medibank x parkrun calendar is Albury Wodonga on Saturday, March 4.
