POLWARTH MP Richard Riordan has recognised the nominees in the latest Annual Polwarth Award.
Riordan congratulated all nominees from across his electorate and presented this year’s winner Jennifer Chiu with the Polwarth Award Medal at a ceremony in Elliminyt on Sunday.
An Otway Rotaract member, Chiu received the award for her long-running school lunch program that has has made an estimated 17,000 lunches so far for children across the Surf Coast and Colac Otway shires.
Riordan said the award – presented this year with the help of Opposition Leader Jess Wilson – highlighted the dedication, generosity and leadership shown by local residents who work tirelessly to support others and strengthen their communities.
He added the calibre of nominees each year reflected the strong community spirit that defined towns and communities throughout Polwarth.
“The Annual Polwarth Award is an opportunity to recognise the people who quietly make an enormous difference in their communities,” Riordan said.
“Across Polwarth there are individuals who volunteer their time, support local organisations, and step forward whenever help is needed. ”
Riordan said the nominations demonstrate the depth of community pride across the region, with residents taking the time to recognise those who go above and beyond for others.
“The people nominated for this award give their time and energy to improving the lives of those around them. Their contributions strengthen our communities and make Polwarth an even better place to live,” he said.
