9-Hole In League tees off with success

A LOCAL weekday twilight golf tournament will continue in 2024 following the alternative competition quickly rising in popularity with the golfing community.

The 9-Hole In League has been a huge hit at The Sands Torquay, with groups of passionate locals turning out to have a social, yet competitive tee off after work hours.

The golf league provides players of all abilities and ages the chance to enjoy the sport in an inclusive and comfortable setting.

It features unique rules including no handicaps, maximum scores applied, putts within three feet are considered made and fairway freedom allows members to adjust their ball to a preferred spot on the fairway.

Mr Dumas said it’s been fantastic to see many players improve their skills and learn more about the game at the sessions.

“It’s been so good to see so many locals coming out and enjoying their golf in a social, but competitive way, “he said.

“We’ve held five sessions so far, and everyone has been getting along really well and improving rapidly.

“Everyone has a chance to win, which is the beauty of it all. It’s not too serious as well, which everyone seems to love.

“We feel it’s been very successful in its first year and can’t wait to bring it back.”

Mr Dumas said he has goals of moving the weekday golfing rounds to extra courses around the state in 2024.

“We have our eyes on trying to play at Barwon Heads, 13th Beach, Anglesea and perhaps even in Melbourne,” he said.

“We would like to do over consecutive nights too, so we can create a great atmosphere on a regular basis.

“It will also allow us to connect with more like-minded people who just love their golf, which is what we are all about.”

The 9-Hole In League will kick off again on February 5 at The Sands in Torquay.
