PEOPLE walking along Anglesea Beach on Friday may have been lucky enough to stumble across Victoria the Whale lying on the sand.

Tom and Ollie Maffett, along with their father Sam took their home-schooling to the shore to create the impressive sand sculpture.

As part of their art lessons Anglesea Primary School Students have been encouraged to create an artwork that can be entered in Anglesea, Aireys Inlet Society for the Protection of Flora and Fauna’s (ANGAIR) Nature Show.

Sam said he and his sons had enjoyed getting creative.

“The artwork for the show just had to be nature-based, so we had a bit of fun putting the whale together at the beach on Friday morning,” he said.

Sam said it was moments like building the whale sand sculpture with his children that he had come to relish during lockdown.

“Home-schooling has been a challenge. The main difficulty is doing your own job while spending time with your kids,” he said.

“But spending that extra time with your family is good. I wouldn’t normally have been out on the beach at 10am Monday building a giant whale.”
