A word from the Chairman – November 16, 2017
With less than 50 days until Christmas, the buzz on the coast on the back of the recent weather pattern continues to be a reminder of what lies ahead and last weekend was a great example of just that.
Mountjoy Parade was bulging with extra numbers, there were locals and visitors returning to the beach, the wedding season in full swing and a number of new and long serving businesses preparing for the summer ahead and continuing to position Lorne at the forefront.
It’s an exciting time, not only because of the approaching seasonal change, but also to see a continuing reinvigoration across a large portion of Lorne’s commercial sector. Leading the charge has to be all the hype and excitement that is surrounding the creation of Lorne’s very own Live Wire Park, an elevated adventure park among the tree tops now under construction on the Erskine Falls Road just past the Industrial Estate adjacent to our town boundary.
This landmark, eco-friendly adventure park is set to supercharge nature and a long, long overdue man-made tourist attraction to service and further encourage year-round visitation and activity in our town. After years of planning, the exciting development is well on track to open in early 2018 and with it offering a large number of permanent and part time jobs for our town – bring on Live Wire!
And for those less adventurous the culinary offering in town is expanding its first-class base of existing operators with Jashn – #FoodOfIndia now officially open for business at shop 10 in the Cumberland Plaza. The Bottle of Milk team have been busy with their latest creation as they prepare to release their latest for summer and the Lorne Hotel have special appearances at the View from Geoff Lindsay’s Crab Club and the Movida team will be unleashing their Spanish food for all to indulge.
Also, it’s annual general meeting time for a number of our local organisations with The Lorne Football Netball Club AGM this Sunday November 19 at Stribling Reserve at 10am, the Committee for Lorne AGM on December 14 at 5pm at the Stribling Reserve and the Lorne Business and Tourism Association AGM on December 19 at Lorne Central Central at 8am with Luke Nisbet from Live Wire Park as guest speaker. Get along and support our local groups that are the year-round backbone of our great town.
Seats are filling fast for our fourth and final Community Luncheon for 2018 scheduled for December 1 at the View at the Lorne Hotel. If you haven’t confirmed please do so by RSVP to [email protected]. Luke Nisbet from Live Wire Park will be our guest speaker and with all the excitement surrounding this new venture this is great opportunity to hear Luke share his vision.
