THE Australian National Surfing Museum (ANSM) is taking part in Accessibility Weekend on September 7-8.

Accessibility Weekend is an Independence Australia initiative where various tourist attractions and events across Victoria offer free admission for people who use a wheelchair or mobility aid and their carer.

ANSM curator Craig Baird says he is pleased the museum can support the initiative.

“The museum has participated in Accessibility Weekend each year for five or six years now. One of our aims is to provide a facility that is welcoming to anyone and everyone who would like to come and share our stories.

“This is a great initiative and a great opportunity for the museum to promote Accessibility Weekend and highlight access and inclusion for all.”

For people with certain physical disabilities, the lack of access to many places can often stop them participating in events.

Accessibility Weekend looks to work towards a more inclusive society by partnering with various events and attractions to ensure they can be enjoyed by people with physical disabilities.

Other venues across the state participating in the weekend include IMAX Melbourne, Legoland Discovery Centre, Bendigo’s Central Deborah Gold Mine and Ballarat’s Gold Museum.
