Action for the environment
VOLUNTEERS have turned out in force to protect and enhance the clifftop grasslands along Ocean Boulevard in Jan Juc.
Staff from the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority teamed up with Jan Juc Coast Action to roll up their sleeves last week.
The grasslands are home to native vegetation including specific coastal shrubs and remnant grassland plants which play a crucial role in supporting local biodiversity.
The two groups mowed the grassland and raked up organic matter to deplete the soil of excess nutrients, particularly nitrogen.
Authority conservation coordinator Scott Hives said regular care and attention has ensured the area can thrive.
“This type of work is crucial in fostering a resilient ecosystem that can withstand environmental pressures while continuing to provide important habitat for native flora and fauna.”
“This is the power of community-led conservation and shows the positive impact of sustainable land management.”
