Active living boost in Lorne
LORNE P-12 College is helping to promote active living by installing exercise equipment at the front of its school grounds.
The gym equipment was opened last month and is available for students and the Lorne public to use out of school hours.
It features an elliptic trainer, leg press, chin-up bars, rowing machine, abdominal bench and a dip bar, among others.
Lorne P-12 College vice-principal Michael Stone said the installations had already been very popular.
“It’s been really successful so far and the feedback has been terrific from our student body, teachers and the wider public,” Mr Stone said.
“As a school, we recognised a need for lunchtime and recess activities, particularly for our senior members of the school. This gym equipment completely delivers it.
“There’s a mixture of machines there to cater for all ages. It’s just awesome.”
The equipment was developed with the assistance of the School Representative Council and received input from the Lorne community.
Construction was completed by Imagination Play.
Mr Stone said teachers had been quick to add the equipment into the curriculum.
“Our physical education department are already using the gym area to run classes and any further units of competencies,” he said..
“It’s a really big asset for our students to use, but also anyone in the area who wants to have a workout. We are thrilled it contributes to our local community being more engaged in an active lifestyle.”
