A MASSIVE turnout at this year’s Afterglow Trail Run has helped send a strong message of support in the fight against gender-based violence as runners brought a full glow to the region.

Afterglow race director Chris Ord could not have been more pleased with how the event’s 10th edition went down on Torquay’s coastline Saturday night, inviting close to 600 participants.

“It was our best year in terms of numbers, we were probably up 10-15 per cent on last year’s figures,” he said.

“To do that on such a special day for the event made the team very proud.

“There was good colour again this year, the weather helped out as well, but we were just stoked to go well again this year.”

Runners painted their nails in support of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence campaign. With each set of nails painted, organisers donated funds to the region’s Sexual Assault and Family Violence Centre.

About 600 runners took part in this year’s Afterglow event.

Afterglow raised a total of about $1500 in donations.

“Each year we look forward to making a difference in any way we can; it was good to get so much support again this year,” Mr Ord said.

“To be able to talk a little bit about the fundraising and cause during the race briefings was really nice.

“If those conversations aren’t being had, there will never be change.”
