THE Surf Coast was saturated with fluorescent colours over the weekend for the return of one of the region’s marquee fun runs.

Afterglow Trail Run was in full effect on Saturday night with over 500 runners putting on their most colourful costumes and brightest smiles.

Organisers confirmed the ninth edition of Afterglow brought in 511 runners, all adorned in whacky outfits.

Blue Mountains resident from New South Wales Josh Lynott secured the quickest run on the day with a time of 1.21.49.

Geelong local Sara Coulter managed to complete the 21km main course in 1.37.25 to secure the fastest time among the female cohort.

The win for Ms Coulter doubled up her wins over the past year, following her Rip to River Run win in late-2022.

Saturday night was Mr Lynott’s first attempt at Afterglow after hearing about it from some fellow runners, which he met earlier this year.

Joshua Lynott finished with the quickest time on the day completing the main 21km course in 1.21.49.

“I hosted a running and mindfulness retreat in the Philippines, which is essentially what I do for work,” Mr Lynott said.

“Most of the guests that went to that were from Victoria went to that retreat and we all decided to do Afterglow as our reunion basically.

“I’ve also cycled to Victoria from the blue mountains as well.

“Initial reaction after winning was super special because I had a bunch of friends at the finish line, so I pretty much ran into their arms.

“It was a lot of fun out there and I was also quite tired after pushing myself.”

Otis Jones (51.33 – male 13km), Amy Trotter (1.11.41 – female 13km), Adam Conquest (17.06 – male 5km), and Rori Reyntjes (21.20 – female 5km) all secured category wins as well.
