A COMMUNITY-led fundraiser in Aireys Inlet aims to bring a fully delivered creative learning experience to the town later this year.
Part of Regional Arts Victoria’s YEAH! 2025 campaign, the initiative aims to raise $2,000 to support Regional Arts Victoria (RAV) to host a Creative Learning one-off professional arts program at the Aireys Inlet Hall, complete with teaching resources and expert facilitation.
The event will also welcome young people from nearby towns.
As of Tuesday this week, $1,620 has been raised, and any funds raised beyond this will support RAV’s wider mission to deliver Creative Learning programs to schools and communities across regional Victoria.
Local artist Rebecca Hosking is leading the local effort as one of nine Community Fundraising Champions in Victoria.
Her belief in the power of the arts comes from personal experience.
“Several years ago, I co-delivered a Creative Workers in Schools program at Aireys Inlet Primary,” she said.
“It was a six-month artist residency where we designed and delivered a bespoke hands-on digital
filmmaking and stop-motion animation project. The goal was to equip students with a wide range of skills and methods to empower them to create, make, and tell stories that matter to them.”
The program gave students the opportunity to build creative confidence and technical know-how, while exploring storytelling through a wide range of art industry practices, fostering a foundation of long-term skills.
“As an artist, it facilitated time to deliver multi layered and meaningful learning experience,” Hosking said.
“It showed me just how valuable art experiences are and how they inspire, connect, and empower – for students, artists and how that ripples to the wider community.”
Motivated by that experience and current experience as a board member, Rebecca nominated Aireys Inlet as a host community for the 2025 YEAH! Program. Already, local support has been generous and heartfelt.
Community champions Wendy Brooks and Cindy Abbey hosted and performed a classical music soirée, with all proceeds going to the fundraiser.
“It’s a beautiful example of how art brings people together, and it speaks volumes about our community’s commitment to youth, culture, and connection,” Hosking said.
“It’s truly heartwarming and reflects the strong community spirit we have here in Aireys – a spirit that runs right through the Surf Coast.”
With the campaign ending soon, Hosking is encouraging others to contribute what they can afford, as all donations over $2 are tax-deductible.
“This isn’t just about a single event,” she said.
“It’s about planting seeds of creativity, confidence, and belonging in our young people – and building a community that celebrates learning, imagination, and joy.”
