AIREYS Inlet Primary School students are offsetting the negative impacts from years of COVID forced lockdowns and isolation through a positive affirmation project.

Building positivity, mindfulness and confidence is at the core of the care cards project, that saw students design and receive a set of affirmation cards they in turn learnt how to use as a tool to improve emotional wellbeing.

Students worked individually on their designs which feature positive messages that collectively formed a deck of cards that can help them through the highs and lows of their days.

Positive affirmation cards from students are a part of a well-being project in response to COVID.

The project seeks to elevate the power of an optimistic mindset through art therapy and was coordinated by parent, artist and local business director of ‘art and healing’ Julie Clarke, whose mission is to support emotional wellbeing through creativity.

“The beauty of this project is that there is a tangible product at the end,” Ms Clarke said.

“Positive affirmations are encouraging phrases or statements which can counteract unhelpful thoughts. Encouraging the students to have positive thoughts or change the way they process information in a more positive context, we hope, will help the wellbeing of the Aireys primary school children.

“These cards can be used for years to come, by the students and their families, and will create an ongoing legacy for using the positive affirmations in all areas of their lives once they learn this skill,” Ms Clarke said.
