Airshow to touch down at Avalon

THE Australian International Airshow is back February next year and the callout is on for volunteers to get involved in the most comprehensive aviation, aerospace and defence exposition in the southern hemisphere.

Back for the first time since 2019 at Avalon Airport, the airshow will deliver aviation enthusiasts and volunteers with a three-day festival of historic and modern aircraft display flying, from the early days of flight to today’s fifth-generation military jets.

 

“We absolutely can’t wait to have our show back in 2023 after what has been a tricky and difficult four years with the pandemic interruptions,” Aerospace Maritime Defence and Security Foundation’s Sandy Paterson said.

“Volunteering at the event is a fulfilling way for people to experience the various aspects of operation at an airshow all the while meeting some amazing people and learning plenty of new skills.

“Volunteers get to work across many parts of the show, from events operations to aviation to media and PR to hosting the chalet lunches.

“Often our volunteers utilise the free camping and catering services to make a full week of the event and it certainly is plenty of fun all round.”

The event will give volunteers the opportunity to get up and close with an array of sport and recreational aircrafts, business jets, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles and the latest military aircrafts.

Paterson said the volunteer positions are usually snatched up fast due to the freedom and vast experiences that each person is given during the festival.

 

Previous years’ events have drawn interest and a strong contingent of interstate travellers who have ventured down to take up the enriching experience at Avalon Airport.

“Our volunteer program is always really popular and so far people have been chomping at the bit to get back to Avalon to help out,” Paterson said.

“Our volunteer co-ordinator Heidi is in constant communication with the team of volunteers that we have had in the past and they are all very eager to get down to assist once again.

“Each volunteer gets full catering, camping, parking, uniforms, an appreciation certificate and a special thankyou function at the end, so it’s certainly an experience that people enjoy.”

Registrations are now open to become a volunteer for the event so get in before all positions are gone.
