Anglesea IGA recognised for community impact
A TOWN-FAVOURITE has been awarded at this year’s IGA Industry Awards of Excellence for its dedication to the Anglesea and Aireys Inlet communities.
Family-owned Anglesea IGA received 2022’s Community Award in a pool of 1,400 stores across the country with store manager Ryan Calvert saying the recognition was only made possible because of the communities they serve.
“It’s great to be recognised, it was actually a huge surprise when we found out,” Mr Calvert said.
“We can’t put back into our community unless the community is supporting us in the first place.
“It’s as simple as that and we’re super grateful to our customers.
“It’s rewarding for our family to support our community’s groups and while it’s great to see our business’ name out in the community, it’s even better when we are able to help out where we can.”
Anglesea IGA has proudly supported organisations across the region for the past 40 years, including the Anglesea Cricket Club and Anglesea Primary School.
Mr Calvert said serving the community during the pandemic had it’s challenges, but the town’s visitor numbers were increasing to their normal pre-pandemic levels.
“Obviously in the last couple of years we haven’t been able to engage with the community as much as we would have liked to because everything was restricted,” Mr Calvert said.
“During COVID we still did our normal sponsorships with the same clubs and organisations as usual, and we still had people coming through to shop and doing things like organising hampers for a fundraiser.
“But it’s great to be open again, seeing tourists coming through town as well as our regular holiday-goers.
People are out and about enjoying themselves and it’s awesome for us to see.”
Anglesea IGA currently employs 80 workers including 20 full-time employees.
