Anglesea local fundraises for Myeloma Australia
ANGLESEA’S Jo De Smet is one of 12 ambassadors for Myeloma Australia – the only myeloma-specific organisation in Australia.
This year will see some of the best comedians from the Sydney and Melbourne International Comedy Festival head to Geelong as part of Comedy For A Cause. The event – to be held at Furphy Hall – will raise funds for Myeloma Australia.
Jo said Myeloma Australia received no government or corporate support and instead relied on philanthropic donations to fund its programs and services.
“The foundation’s mission is to facilitate myeloma research in Australia through the Medical and Scientific Advisory Group (MSAG), to support and inform those living with the disease and educate those involved in its care and treatment.”
In a bid to help the foundation achieve its mission, Jo has been fundraising via online platform Everyday Hero. He said he hoped to raise a minimum of $10,000.
Comedy For A Cause is locked in for October 2 at Furphy Hall (Little Creatures Brewery), 221 Swanston Street, South Geelong.
Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are $30 per person. Head to comedyforacause.net/tc-events/myeloma to purchase yours.

In our August 22 printed edition, we mentioned Comedy For A Cause will be televised nationally. This was incorrect. The 12 Myeloma Australia ambassadors will be part of a televised opportunity at a later date.
