Anglesea locals gather for good
MORE than 450 people touched by Australia’s bushfire crisis converged at Anglesea Football Club on Saturday to raise $36,000 for three relief charities.
The event was made possible thanks to Anglesea locals Holly Lipson, Lauren Bell, Ryan O’Connell, Jack Milner, La-nee Isherwood and Sam Suendermann who collaboratively organised the program of entertainment.
“We were hoping to bring our very generous and very connected Anglesea and wider community together,” Ms Lipson said.
“A few of us have been really devastated by the news of the bushfires and we wanted to do something to help. I’m really proud of what we were all able
to achieve.”
Favourable weather saw the evening begin with a Welcome to Country by Wadawurrung traditional owner Corrina Eccles, followed by a talk from Anglesea Country Fire Authority (CFA) member Beth Davidson.
Local businesses and artists donated about 113 items to the silent auction, all of which helped achieve an impressive $35,000 figure.
Event organisers said all profits would be shared equally between Australian Red Cross, Wildlife Victoria and the CFA.
