A NEW home is on the way for Anglesea’s netballers, with the sod being turned on clubrooms and facilities at Ellimatta Reserve that will provide the club’s players with greater opportunity and comfort into the future.

Last week, works officially begun on the new facility’s build, which has “been a long time coming” according to outgoing club netball manager Marianne Caulfield.

“There is quite a few of us that are still here from the 1970s and ’80s and to see it go from a shelter shed to what will be a great community facility is fantastic,” she said.

“It’s very exciting and it means a lot to our community, to finally get something of this nature happening.”

Caulfield mentioned the club had endured a lengthy wait for the new build to kick off, with funding only becoming available recently.

“It was definitely a waiting game, it’s been in the works for a long time, the asking for it and pushing for it has been quite a process,” she said.

“When you’ve got five senior teams and 10 junior teams it becomes hard to squeeze into the little space that we did have.

“People can expect a much bigger facility, it’ll mean we can host other clubs really well compared to the one small clubroom and tiny changeroom we had before.”

The new build will not only give Anglesea and its visiting team quality changerooms and facilities but also provide greater access for people of all abilities.

“The new space will have changerooms and toilets that those with disabilities can easily access and get into, which is something we didn’t have before,” Ms Caulfield said.

“The build will also have dividing doors between the home, away and umpire rooms which can then be opened up to make into a large community space.

“It’ll be exciting to see it all go up, I’m sure there will be a really great feeling around the club as we see it all constructed.”

On the present timeline, the club has been told the build will be ready in June 2023.

Portables and exterior amenities have been brought in for the netballers until construction is finished.
