Anglesea News & Lotto among the best in the state
ANGLESEA News & Lotto has been recognised as one of the standout newsagencies in the state during the annual Victorian Association for Newsagents Gala Industry awards.
The sold-out VANA Gala awards took place on May 1, with the Anglesea Newsagency up for two awards and business owner Corrine Nigro nominated for businesswoman of the year.
“I was pretty chuffed and a little embarrassed but overall, very pleased to be nominated,” she said.
Anglesea News & Lotto was announced a finalist for the Victorian Newsagency of the Year, nominated by Fairfax, as well as the Greeting Card Shop of the Year, as nominated by Hallmark.
In both categories Ms Nigro’s business was the only Surf Coast-based newsagency to be listed.
“We didn’t come away with the trophy although we feel as though we did,” she said.
“Just being nominated is enough for us.”
Ms Nigro said they had been previously nominated for Newsagency of the Year two years ago and while they did not win, a staff member was titled the annual retail employee of the year, while another won a separate national award.
“We are very happy and very surprised to be recognised not only in Victoria but nationally,” she said.
“We work hard to have a good little business and we are all very proud of it, we are like a family in a beautiful community.
“It is not hard to run a business in a nice environment with nice people.”
Ms Nigro said the secret to their success has been maintaining good relationships with customers and suppliers.
“We are always trying to evolve and adapt to whatever the needs are,” she said.
“Especially over the past 18 months we have adapted our business by trying to read what our customers want and by changing our stock regularly to keep up-to-date with the latest trends.
“To top it all off we just love offering excellent customer service.”
