Anglesea SLSC toasts 70 years on the Surf Coast
ANGLESEA Surf Life Saving Club has celebrated 70 years of patrolling beaches, community engagement and providing life-saving skills.
Past and present members gathered earlier this month to reflect on the club’s history and view the a memorabilia display, which was curated by Anglesea and Life Saving Victoria life member and historian, Prue Weber.
More than 200 people enjoyed a barbecue and informal celebrations where organisers presented attendees with caps to commemorate the club’s 70 year’s of service.
Among the members who attended the event was Anglesea SLSC president David Marsh, whose children are now fourth generation lifesavers at Anglesea SLSC.
“The surf club has been an integral part of mine and my family’s life and it’s wonderful to share this great place now with my children,” Mr Marsh said.
“The 70th celebrations showed what a rich and successful history the club has had, and I cannot wait to see what we can achieve over the next 1 to 20 years.”
Capping off the weekend’s proceedings was the appearance of local legends including 93-year-old Kenneth Coulson, who did his Bronze Medallion in 1952.
Furthermore, the club properly celebrated the achievements of member Christine Cardwell, who was awarded as Surf Sport Coach of the Year at the Surf Life Saving Australia Awards earlier this month.
