Anglesea Twilight Market returns to the Surf Coast
LOCAL makers and producers are gearing up for summer as the Anglesea Twilight Market returns on December 6.
Across 10 dates, market stalls will fill the grounds of the Anglesea Community House precinct offering products from local garlic growers, wineries and distilleries through to jewellers, artists, woodworkers
and more.
Market coordinator Helen Kline said the event has a great mix of local, handmade growers
and makers.
“Most of it is sourced locally, there’s an emphasis on that, nothing is brought in or being made by anyone other than the person at the stall, that’s given it a great strength.
“The other great thing about it is that it’s become a little platform for local musicians as well, we’ve had some great young kids from Lorne P-12 and Surf Coast Secondary come and really gain confidence and launch them off into great things.”
The market originally began around five years ago as a farmers market model and in last year expanded to invite more local artisans to the event.
Ms Kline said the new format had worked well and become popular with the locals, visitors and store holder alike.
“It’s a really lovely community run event that optimises the climate, the visitors to the town and gives a platform for all the local makers and growers to show what they’re made of and support small businesses too.
“For me, it’s been great to meet all the local people and see the market grow and we all have a really good camaraderie.”
Ms Kline said for the stall holders, a night market fel6 entirely different, with a waitlist for those wanting to be involved.
“Even though it’s a late finish, it’s a much more relaxing vibe and everyone just enjoys having a bit of a chat.”
A gold coin donation is appreciated at the gate, with last year’s market season raising more than $15,000 for the Community House.
The markets will run from 4.30pm until 8pm on alternating Fridays throughout December and February, every Friday in January and finish on March 7.
