Annual wildflower show dates announced

THE dates for this year’s Angair Wildflower & Art Weekend have been released with the popular two-day show to return to the Surf Coast for a 54th year.

Angair president Sally White confirmed the annual wildflower show will take place at Anglesea’s McMillan Street Precinct from September 21 to September 22, again providing residents and visitors rare insight into the region’s native flora.

“It remains our most important event for us here at Angair,” she said.

“It draws in so many new people to get to know Angair and it draws in the larger amount of our volunteers who love being involved in this event each year.

“It is a lot of hard work not only during the lead-up to the show, but during and afterwards as well, but it’s worth it when we see families, kids and visitors alike smiling when they come down on one or both of the days.”

The weekend will involve plant sales, guided walks through nearby trails, an art exhibition under the theme of “Natural Wonders” featuring works from people living on the Surf Coast and in Greater Geelong, and children’s activities.

Ms White said the countdown to the event is an exciting one but knows a lot of work needs to take place to get the show ready with the help of the organisation’s valued volunteers.

Local organisations and environmental bodies will again have stalls set up promoting their services to the region.

“The fact this event has been going for decades and decades makes the show so unique, it’s pretty extraordinary really.

“This year though, there will be a focus on local animals interacting with local flowers, which is somewhat of a focus each year, but this year more so.

“We’ll also have QR codes with all of our stuffed animal displays, showcasing all of the information associated with the wildlife found across the Surf Coast.”
