How to commemorate Anzac Day

DESPITE the recent easing of coronavirus restrictions across Victoria, local commemorative services on Anzac Day will be limited or not going ahead at all this Sunday, April 25.

COVIDSafe guidelines will apply at the services that are running, with attendees asked to arrive early and sign in using the sheets or QR codes available and observe social distancing.

Priority to attend will be given to RSL members and their relatives along with serving and retired defence forces members.

• Torquay – No service.
• Anglesea – March from the Memorial Hall at 9.30am to the RSL House in Murray St for the service at 10am, followed by refreshments in the rear garden.
• Queenscliff – Dawn service reserved for local veterans and their families so they can safely commemorate the day in person.
• Drysdale – 10.30am start at Princess St near Everlsey St. The march proceeds along Princess St to conclude at the Drysdale Cenotaph.
• Geelong – 11am start on Malop St, near Yarra St. The march proceeds along Malop St, turns left in Gheringhap St, right into Johnstone Park to conclude Geelong Peace Memorial.
• Eastern Beach – No service.
• Norlane – 9.30am start on the corner of Sparks Rd and Princess Fwy service lane. The march proceeds along Princess Fwy service lane, turns right into Rose Ave and concludes at Norlane RSL.
• Ocean Grove – 9.45am start at The Terrace. The march proceeds along The Terrace, turns right into Presidents Ave and right into The Avenue to conclude at Ocean Grove Cenotaph.
• Barwon Heads – No service.
• Portarlington – 11am start at RSL on Harding St, turns right into Newcomb Street, travels to Brown Street, returning along Newcomb Street to conclude at the Portarlington Cenotaph.

People are also being encouraged to again take part in the “Light Up the Dawn” initiative. Stand at your front door, balcony or end of your driveway at 6am with a candle, torch or some other light source and observe a minute’s silence.
