Apollo Bay Christmas tree lights up
THE Apollo Bay community celebrated its fourth year of lighting up the southern hemisphere’s tallest Christmas tree.
Organiser Sally Cannon said hundreds turned out Friday, December 2, to see the switch be flicked on the 80,000 pre-programmed LED’s that adorn the 35-metre Norfolk Pine on the town’s foreshore, that will be on between 7.30 – 11.30PM until January 26.
“It was a great night, the weather was on our side, it was fantastic,” she said.
Local musical acts Gaz and Jen and Temp Work Space kept the crowds amused as they waiting for the sun to properly set so the fireworks could begin, run by local Danny Cox.
“It was all made possible by Jamie & Penny Pickett from the Apollo Bay Foreshore Carnival, the Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce and the Colac Otway Shire,” Ms Cannon said of the night.
“It’s just a great, free community event.”
Santa arrived not by sled but via police car, local officers then showing the vehicle off to kids who’d gathered around, and the granting of temporary liquor permit for the night meant people were able to pack an esky and park up on the foreshore for the evening.
The foreshore carnival in Apollo Bay will kick off on Boxing Day.
