Applications open for road safety grants

THE state government is inviting community groups and local councils from across Victoria to apply for grants to boost road safety in their area.

Minister for Roads and Minister for Road Safety and the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) Jaala Pulford announced that the next round of the TAC’s Towards Zero Community Grants program is now open.

Grants of up to $30,000 are available to community groups and local councils. Applications for the grants are now open and close May 8.

This grants program is part of Labor’s $1.4 billion Towards Zero Action Plan, which aims to reduce the number of lives lost on Victoria’s roads to 200 or fewer by 2020.

“We’re supporting local communities to take leadership and ownership over the road safety issues that impact their daily lives,” Ms Pulford said.

“By working with local communities to improve road safety in their area we can work together in our goal to reach zero deaths or serious injuries on our roads.”

TAC road safety lead director Samantha Cockfield said improving road safety on Victoria’s roads was a shared responsibility.

“Local government and communitygroups play a pivotal role in identifying and improving issues in their area.”
