Arts Calendar Competition entries open
ENTRIES are now open for the Surf Coast Shire council’s 2021 Arts Calendar Competition.
Now in its 22nd year, the competition is undergoing a digital transformation. It will include a virtual exhibition via the social media hashtag #Portal from Friday, October 16 to Friday, October 30.
People will be able to vote for the cover artwork online, with the winner to be announced on November 4.
The 12 winners will come from three categories: Open (all media), Installed Sculptural Work and Children/Youth.
Cr David Bell announced the theme for this year’s competition.
“To acknowledge the extraordinary nature of 2020, this year’s Calendar Competition entries must work with the theme The World at Home and reflect the artist’s life during the year,” he said. “Whether this is in response to lockdown or reflecting the things that kept them buoyed throughout the time.”
Cr Margot Smith said the theme would contribute to making this year’s calendar competition unique.
“It’s been an extraordinary year for all of us, but especially for our creative communities,” she said.
“I feel this will be a very special and memorable arts calendar as we’re given a glimpse into their reflections on the resilience, sense of community and challenges these changing times have created.”
Entries are open until 5pm on Friday, September 25.
