ARTISTS are encouraged to start creating as entries for the Surf Coast Community Arts Calendar competition open.

Winning artworks, selected by a panel of judges, will make up images for the calendar’s 12 months, while the front cover will be decided by a people’s choice vote.

Local artist Emily Wright entered the competition last year for the first time and landed the prized front cover spot with her linocut work.

Ms Wright said it was a great experience.

“It was lovely having a lot of people then recognise me from that – having seen my work in the Arts Calendar Exhibition, or once they had received the printed calendar.

“It was very encouraging and a big confidence boost. It highlighted what my artwork itself was about, my love for our community was then supported by our community.”

Ms Wright said the calendar was an ideal way for people to get their work out there and have it celebrated.

All artworks from the competition will be displayed at the Anglesea Art Space throughout October and each artist selected for the calendar will receive a $300 cash prize.

Artists can submit works across open 2D, open 3D, youth and child categories for the competition.

Surf Coast Shire mayor Mike Bodsworth encouraged all artists to consider entering.

“Aspiring and established artists alike colour the months of our community arts calendar and the breadth of their work is always truly impressive.

“The mediums featuring in the 2025 calendar range from ceramics and fibre arts to painting, linocut and textiles, demonstrating its accessibility to artists from all streams.”

Submissions close on September 21.
