Arts an important part of St Joseph’s College program

May 16, 2018 BY

Many of St Joseph’s College’s musical groups have the opportunity to perform throughout the year.

The arts nurture cultural understanding, invention and imagination.

The arts are an expressive, creative and communicative form of study that engages students in critical and creative thinking and helps them understand themselves and the world.

As such, arts are an important part of a St Joseph’s education.

The St Joseph’s College Arts program begins in Year 7 and is designed to give students a “taste” of their future study options across the areas of art, music, media, drama and visual communication design. As students advance in their studies, many choose one or more arts subjects to complement their education.

Visitors to the College can view the latest student artworks exhibited in our Pat Bourke Art Gallery – currently showcasing the photographic works of our VCAL students.

Have you heard the beat of the drums?

A recent addition to our music program is our College Drumline groups, Geelong residents may have spotted the Senior Drumline performing in the Anzac parade.

This is one of many of our musical groups that have the opportunity to perform throughout the year, the college bands have just returned from performing in the Generations of Jazz festival in Mt Gambier.

These opportunities to perform in competitions and events provide valuable ‘real world’ experience and the thrill of seeing an audience respond directly to a performance.

Every year our Arts Students transform our end of year Awards Ceremony into a Music Showcase, with multiple musical numbers accompanied by our drama students. It is always a spectacular event. Every year it is a credit to our young men
