Ash rewards beach cleaners with concert

January 5, 2018 BY

MULTI-award-winning bluesman and former Torquay local Ash Grundwald performed at Quiksilver’s Bar 61 on Tuesday January 2 in conjunction with the Earth Bottles beach clean-up earlier that morning.

Earth Bottles founder Danni Carr and wife of Ash Grundwald gave thanks before her husband’s performance for those who turned up at Torquay’s back beach for the clean-up.

“It was incredible what we found. There were 70 plastic bags, over 2,000 cigarette butts, 127 plastic bottles, thongs, keys, balls, you name it, we found it,” Danni said.

“We disposed of it all responsibly so it’s not going back into our oceans.

“All the money that we raise from the tickets and raffle today will be going to the Clean Coast Collective who travel all over the world to stay on beaches for weeks at a time cleaning up; 80 per cent of marine debris is from plastic, plastic bottles, coffee cup linings and straws to name a few.”

During the course of the performance everyone in attendance received a reusable straw and were encouraged to take it out wherever it would be needed and to encourage others to do the same.

Ash was proud to be back in his home town and have so many people supporting the Earth Bottles clean-up.

“There were over 100 people down at the beach and it was fantastic to have so many people want to help,” Ash said.
