The Gordon’s Certificate III in Barbering students recently participated in a barbering pop-up event with MatchWorks, gaining real-world experience and an opportunity to give back to the community.

“Matchworks is delighted to highlight our collaboration with The Gordon TAFE in 2023 through the ‘Free Haircuts Day’ initiative delivered at four Matchworks locations within the Geelong region this year,” MatchWorks employer engagement partner Brendan Chandler said.

“The active participation of students, guided by Gordon TAFE Trainer Ben Pratt, has been instrumental in the program’s success, enhancing the experience of our participants with disabilities as they re-enter the workforce.”

Sean Williamson, a Gordon barbering student, said: “Studying to be a barber has been a great experience. The best part is learning the skills, especially the scissor work. The experience with Matchworks is a win-win!

“A lot of people come out really enjoying it and loving the experience. They come in and leave feeling a million bucks and are really grateful.”

The Gordon barbering teacher Ben Pratt said there was a real demand for skilled barbers.

“Here at The Studio, we teach specialist barbering skills, including cutting, freehand clipper work, and facial hair maintenance.”

This comprehensive program equips you with the essential techniques and industry insights to enable you to excel in your craft and confidently pursue an apprenticeship.
