Barwon Heads Triathlon entries open for 2019
ENTRIES are now open for the 13th Beach Health Services Barwon Heads Triathlon, which takes place in March next year.
This great local event, which is now in its fourth year, comprises a 400-metre swim, 14-kilometre cycle and 4.4-kilometre run.
Event organiser Lincoln Beckworth said it was the perfect distance to entice all levels of competitors.
“Last year, the event attracted around 700 competitors, 200 of those were doing their first ever triathlon, which was awesome,” Mr Beckworth said.
“It’s what the event is all about, having a go, challenging yourself, and having fun.
“We’ve also had top Victorian age group triathletes battling it out over the fast scenic course.”
The 400-metre swim takes place in the Barwon River, in calm, protected waters, and it is also assisted by an incoming tide, making it a lot easier for those who aren’t confident swimmers.
The 14-kilometre cycle leg is out on the scenic 13th Beach road to the windmill and back, while the 4.4-kilometre run heads out along the trail path towards Ocean Grove and back.
Mr Beckworth said it was great to have the support from local businesses who sponsored the event, because without their generous contributions the event would not be possible.
The 13th Beach Health Services Barwon Heads Triathlon is on March 3. For more information head to barwonheadstri.com.au.
