Be part of the tale of the tape with Buff Diss
GEELONG Regional Libraries has partnered with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) to present a special workshop for young people with renowned street artist Buff Diss at Torquay Library next week.
Youth can join local street artist Buff Diss, who will use tape to interact with buildings, streets and architecture to create remarkable pieces of work in the free workshop.
Participants will have the library all to themselves and be guided through creating art that will later form part of an exhibition.
Instead of spray paint, Buff Diss’ chosen medium is tape, which he deploys in a distinctive style on street art and public art at sites across Melbourne and around the world, and he now calls the Surf Coast home.
His work has been described as striking, thought-provoking and unique.
“Creativity for me is about reinterpreting norms,” he said.
“When I visit a city and there is no graffiti or street art, I find it desolate. When a city has lots of street art and graffiti I kind of find it comforting.
“It’s a bit like when there is a crack in a brick wall and you find organic growth, ivy growing in the cracks, like a natural resistance.”
Geelong Regional Libraries chief executive officer Vanessa Schernickau said: “This workshop is an incredible opportunity for youth to learn from renowned Australian street artist Buff Diss and create their own works in a friendly and welcoming environment. I can’t wait to see what they create!”
This is a free event for children aged 13 to 18, and snacks are included.
The workshop will be held at Torquay Library, Surf City Plaza, Beach Road, Torquay on Wednesday, May 3, from 4-6pm,

This program has been created in partnership with the TAC and its “Hear my Voice” program. An exhibition highlighting the array of work created by young people will be curated later this year to demonstrate their talent and voices.
