Bellbrae Cemetery seeks new trust members to maintain community legacy
BELLBRAE Cemetery is calling for two new trust members to join its volunteer team to help manage and preserve the site’s serene parkland setting.
The cemetery’s recent projects include seven rock-walled garden beds for ashes interments, planted with vibrant native flowers, and additional rose gardens, which are now in full bloom.
Plans are also underway to expand the lower section of the cemetery, creating new burial plots and ashes positions while maintaining the natural, tranquil environment.
Annie Young, a long-serving trust member, said joining the trust was both meaningful and rewarding.
“Our families are so appreciative of everything we do to make the cemetery a peaceful and beautifully maintained place to visit,” she said.
Trust members meet quarterly and contribute through tasks such as meeting with families, attending interments, participating in working bees, and leading special projects.
Skills in governance, leadership, finance, grant applications, or gardening are particularly welcomed.
Peter Rau, the newly appointed chair of the Bellbrae Cemetery Trust, said the team hoped to find community-minded individuals to help continue their work.
