Bevilacqua reclaims Jim Wall title
The Surf Coast Times Jim Wall Ironman is the oldest ironman race in Australia and was held at Torquay Surf Beach on Friday afternoon, with professional and amateur competitors travelling from across Australia to participate in the signature event.
There were eight wildcard spots up for grabs for round four of the Summer of Surf Ocean6 Nutri-Grain Ironman and woman event at Fairhaven on the Sunday (see page 22), meaning competition was fierce.
Despite the rain that lingered throughout the day, a good crowd watched the Jim Wall Ironman and Ironwoman races.
Matt Bevilacqua from Kurrawa Surf Lifesaving Club, who won the event in 2014, reclaimed his title on Friday, with Manly SLSC’s Naomi Scott taking out first place in the women’s division.
